During her last year at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, Tara won the American green card lottery. She immediately said goodbye to her home in Toronto and headed to New York, where she studied at Cooper Union. Today, fifteen years later and still in New York, Tara has carved out a career that encompasses lifestyle, fashion and children.

“I love to photograph,” she says. “I’m happiest when I am shooting & I feel completely invisible. I soak everything in; the people, the food, the colors, all the elements that create a story about what is happening in front of me. One of my first jobs was photographing in Provence for 18 days for Frederic Fekkai’s book, A Year in Style. Each day I’d return to the hotel and sit in the bathtub with all the Polaroids from the day stuck to the rim of the bathtub. I was completely surrounded by what I’d seen. It was a great feeling to be exhausted but to see the story unfolding."

It is with an unfailing vision that Tara sees every subject, and every shot has the stamp of the unmistakable Sgroi approach. Her beautiful son, Lupo, is her greatest inspiration and very often her muse.
