Born in England. Leon Steele started his career by apprenticing famed London photographer David Stewart for five years. During that time he was awarded the prestigious Velvia Bursary Grant, which is a competition by invitation only. In 2000 Leon won the highly prized John Kobal award, sponsored by the National Portrait Gallery, London. Steele’s work was exhibited in the 10 year retrospective at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Leon’s personal collection “Farmland Skies” (to view Leon’s collection see the icon above), started in Kenya in the 1990’s. There he began his fascination with how objects can be photographed in a way that “twisted” their meaning.
